The Petrská district lies between the right bank of the Vltava and Hybernská, Revoluční and Těšnov streets. It effectively separates the Old Town from the New Town. It is a place that simply oozes history. It is here that you’ll find the Church of St Clement, the Church of St Peter Na Poříčí and the Novomlýnská Water Tower, which serves as a reminder of a past filled with traditional mills that once stood here thanks to the river’s proximity.
Despite its charming buildings and stories, the Petrská district remains somewhat overlooked by tourists; there’s a wonderful tranquillity here, which, in turn, perfectly complements the authentic way of life of the local people. Despite its location in the heart of the capital, small traditional services such as a laundrette, a dry cleaner’s or even a glazier’s have managed to survive here.
Alongside these, however, there’s also a growing number of wonderful cafés, wine bars and shops. Take inspiration from our tips and pop along to see what you might have been missing out on. You could easily spend a whole day in the Petrská Quarter – or perhaps even a whole lifetime.
Flavours from around the world
Whatever takes your fancy, the Petrská district has it covered. At Palanda on Zlatnická Street, you can enjoy a superb American burger, whilst authentic Italian cuisine is on offer at Cibo da Dio on Petrská Street or at Al Forno Trattoria on Petrské Square. If you’re a fan of Mexican cuisine, you’ll certainly enjoy a visit to Las Adelitas, also on Petrská Street. You can discover the flavours of Argentina at La Boca on Truhlářská Street. For a French-inspired gastronomic experience, head to the elegant Grand Cru restaurant, housed in one of the historic buildings on Lodecká Street.

Where the coffee’s aroma comes from
If you’re looking for somewhere to go for breakfast, or to enjoy a coffee after a good lunch, head to Minimum Waste Cafe. It’s a sustainable café that ensures everything on offer – from coffee and desserts to the meals served throughout the day – comes from suppliers who produce their ingredients responsibly, using minimal resources and, of course, generating minimal waste. If you’d like to learn more about a more environmentally conscious approach to production and life, they also host talks on sustainability. What’s more, you can pick up some handy eco-friendly home accessories here.
They also take a very responsible approach to coffee at a place aptly named Freshly Roasted Coffee, which is a member of the Slow Food association. Pop in here for a coffee, but also just for a chat. They’ll be more than happy to advise you on your choice and willingly share their knowledge and experience, so that you can find your favourite among all the different types of coffee and roasting methods. Incidentally, they also sell excellent Czech chocolate and barista equipment.
Where to go for a drink
When it’s time for wine, do remember the Wine Office on Truhlářská Street. They have the widest selection of Spanish wines in the whole of Prague, so naturally their menu also includes cava and tapas. You can stock up on wine to take home, or simply sit and relax – the bar is a really cosy spot.
Do you prefer sparkling wine? Then you’ll be delighted to know that Prosekárna also has one of its branches on Petrské náměstí. In its modern interior, within a few sips you’ll be instantly transported to the atmosphere of the Italian wine paradise of Valdobbiadene, which lies in the foothills of the Dolomites.
Not keen on wine or prosecco, and would you rather have a proper draught beer? Then we recommend Gulden Draak, a Belgian beer bar on Soukenická Street, where you can sample Belgian beers from sixteen taps and over a hundred different varieties by the bottle. You won’t know what to try first, so you’ll have no choice but to come back again.

Great spots for designer shopping
But the Petrská Quarter experience doesn’t end with history or gastronomy. Your visit won’t be complete unless you also pop into the amazing shops and showrooms that your home is just waiting for. Right here in the Petrská Quarter, you’ll find several perfect opportunities to furnish your home in style.
The luxury Italian furniture brand Minotti has its showroom on Petrské náměstí. On Klimentská Street, you’ll find the showroom of another popular Italian brand, Poliform. On the same street, you’ll also find the multi-brand Showroom Dot, which focuses primarily on fashion and accessories, mainly from Czech designers.
Soukenická Street is also home to the 100 class concept store, which offers a unique selection of local designers complemented by several independent European brands; here you can find interior décor, contemporary design, fashion, jewellery and fashion accessories, as well as a selection of cosmetics, notebooks and books. They have clear criteria for their selection – it’s not just about the items being beautiful, but also about their manufacturers upholding the principles of a sustainable lifestyle.
