The design of the Interior of the Year award is created by a different designer or studio each year. Dechem are thus taking up the baton from Rony Plesl, Václav Mlynář, Jakub Pollág, Boris Klimek and Kateřina Handlová, amongst others.
Fragmentglass most of all resembles leaves frozen in a winter landscape or a nebula in deep space. The visually abstract nature of the fused glass panels developed by the Dechem studio offers countless enchanting associations when viewed in detail.

Despite its poetic form, the design concept has a purely pragmatic background. The creative impetus in this case was the need to make use of discarded vases and lampshades, as well as the technological waste that is inextricably linked to glass production. “It pains us to throw such items away. We devoted the same care to them during production as we do to everything else. By remelting them, we obtain a sheet material that always has a unique structure which cannot be replicated in exactly the same form,” explains designer Michaela Tomišková. Out of respect for the energy expended, the work of the craftsmen, and the material itself, the designers decided to utilise the residual glass and breathe new life into it through remelting. - The awards will once again be produced by the BOMMA glassworks in Světlá nad Sázavou.
“The awards will once again be presented as the highlight of the Living Forum, an international congress on housing, design and architecture, at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, which this year has the theme ‘BOLD INTERIORS OF TOMORROW’. The future belongs to sustainability, which is why we were delighted to have the opportunity to incorporate this philosophy into the very design of the awards themselves,” adds Petr Tschakert, founder and director of Interior of the Year.
