Designers Michaela Tomišková and Jakub Janďourek (Dechem studio) worked on around ten different versions, of which the winning design consisted of three geometric glass shapes that partially overlap when viewed from the front and, through the interplay of their forms, create a kind of architectural metaphor.

The artists chose Fragmentglass as their material – a method of upcycling used shards of various colours and degrees of translucency, which are then reassembled. Whilst previous awards were ‘merely’ original designs by the artists, in this case the studio will be actively involved in the production of each piece and will select the colour combinations. Each piece thus becomes a unique original. Once again this year, the awards will be produced by Mr Martin Wichterle’s glassworks, BOMMA.

As part of the preparations for the award, not only was a whole series of accompanying sketches produced, but also a simple polystyrene model to assess the proportions of the volumes directly within the context of the interior. The awards will be approximately 30 cm tall and the glass will be backlit. Among other things, ‘Interior of the Year’ will celebrate its tenth anniversary with these exceptional originals, an achievement that has made it the interior design award with the longest tradition in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The tenth edition of the competition is held under the patronage of the Chair of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic, the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Prague City Hall and the Mayor of Prague 7.
