Holešovice is a super-modern neighborhood full of unique spots. And we’re not just talking about the local food scene. In recent years, it has also become a hub for culture and design. Where can you catch a play, and where can you get the crispiest croissant first thing in the morning?

Holešovice—especially its lower part—could easily be considered a small city within a city. There’s always something new to try here; the aroma of premium coffee fills the air at every turn, and you’ll never get bored, because great exhibitions and fantastic performances are a daily occurrence. Thanks to the design shops, you can easily furnish your new home, and top-notch architecture is also making its way here.

A café made from shipping containers? Why not

For great coffee and a light lunch, head to Osada. Last year, Ortenovo Square in Holešovice was revitalized by the imaginative two-story café Kontejner, built from shipping containers whose walls have been transformed into large windows, complete with summer terraces. Its creators, architects Ondřej Janků and Shota Tsikoliya, have successfully blended industrial style with a green garden in the heart of the city.

Breakfast—Even in the Afternoon

You can enjoy a great breakfast at Twenty7. But feel free to stop by for lunch or dinner as well. If you’d rather enjoy breakfast in the comfort of your own home, head over to the bakery Naše toustárna. All the breads, rolls, croissants, and other crispy treats are baked fresh here from morning through the afternoon.

For lovers of top-notch cuisine

Head to Food Republic for seafood. You can even enjoy barbecue in the middle of winter at Big Smokers. The architects from 0.5 Studio have perfectly captured the atmosphere of a typical American restaurant while creating a stylish interior free of cheesy pretentiousness. A Holešovice classic and a sure bet is Home Kitchen, where you can also enjoy breakfast, lunch, and a fantastic dinner.

Theater, Music, and Contemporary Art

The La Fabrika cultural center hosts a wide variety of theater and dance performances that require unconventional spatial arrangements. At the same time, it perfectly symbolizes Holešovice’s characteristic ability to breathe new life into former industrial factories. While Holešovice is now a model of modern urban life, it was once exclusively a working-class neighborhood. For concerts and musicals, head to the Na Maninách Theater. At the DOX gallery, you’ll always find the best of contemporary Czech and international art.
